Why Convert Milliamp Hours to Milliwatt Hours?

Converting milliamp hours to milliwatt hours can help you accurately compare the energy storage capacity of batteries with different voltages. This is because the energy a battery can deliver depends on both its milliamp hours and voltage.

For example, let's take two batteries:

  1. Battery 1: 1,000mAh at 3.7V
  2. Battery 2: 1,000mAh at 7.4V

At first glance, if you just consider milliamp hours, you might think these two batteries can supply the same amount of energy. However, once you convert their milliamp hours to milliwatt hours, you'll find that Battery 2 can supply twice as much energy as Battery 1.

Battery 1: 1000mAh × 3.7V = 3700mWh

Battery 2: 1000mAh × 7.4V = 7400mWh

Another reason to convert milliamp hours to milliwatt hours is when you want to know how long a battery will last when powering a certain device. Let's say you have a device that uses 500 milliwatts of power and you want to power it with Battery 1.
